What We Treat

Shoulder pain treatment in New Orleans.

The catch when you reach behind the seat. The side you stopped sleeping on. We go looking for the structure that is actually pinching, not just the sore spot.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like you?

  • Reaching back between the seats and getting a catch that stops your arm dead
  • Rolling onto that side at 2am and waking all the way up
  • A pinch about halfway up when you raise your arm, then it eases past it
  • Putting a jacket on one sleeve at a time, always in the same order
  • A grinding you can hear when you circle the shoulder
  • An ache that sits there while you do nothing at all, on the couch

Why It Happens

Shoulder Pain has a cause. We find it.

Your shoulder trades stability for reach. The ball sits shallow in the socket so your arm can go anywhere, and the muscles around it do the holding. Two more joints share the job: the one on top of your shoulder, and where your collarbone meets your breastbone. It is a lot of movement resting on soft tissue.

So shoulder pain is usually a load problem, not a mystery. Years of pushing, pulling and reaching overhead wear the surfaces thin. A tendon, or the bursa underneath it, gets pinched and inflamed. The muscles that should be steering your shoulder blade go quiet, and the trapezius on top takes the burden. That’s why the ridge aches and the ache refers up into a headache. We’re good at finding the piece a quick look misses, because that piece is usually the one driving it. You’re the one who does the lifting and reaching for everybody else. Which is exactly why your shoulder has waited this long, and exactly why you’re reading this.

The Honest Truth

Waiting doesn’t make shoulder pain wait on you.

If you keep waiting

  • The less you move it, the stiffer it gets, and stiffness takes longer to unwind than irritation
  • Broken sleep stacks up, and everything is harder on four hours
  • Your other arm and your neck take the load, and start letting you know about it

If you start this week

  • Visit one goes after which structure is pinching, not just where it hurts
  • One-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, hands on, every visit
  • A plan with an endpoint: you know which phase you’re in and what’s left

Nobody regrets starting too early. Notice how many jobs you’ve quietly handed to your other arm.

How We Fix It

The same four phases. Built for your shoulder.

This is Magnolia’s own four-phase program, run for shoulder pain. Every plan has an endpoint.

Where we start

Pain

Calm the pain down.

Manual release work on the irritated tendon and bursa, with joint mobilization to take the pressure off the pinch.

Once the pain settles

Prime

Get your reach back.

Graded joint mobilization and soft tissue release restore motion in every plane: overhead, behind you, across your body.

Once motion returns

Perform

Make it strong enough to trust.

Body Blade drills, tubing routines and scapular squeezes rebuild the stability and control your shoulder blade lost.

Before we sign off

Prevent

Return better than before.

Posture retraining for desk and device work, with biofeedback so the new pattern sticks, plus a home program you keep. That’s the endpoint, not another appointment.

I'd been suffering with pain in my shoulder for over 1.5 years. Regular physical therapy did nothing to alleviate my pain. After only three sessions with Beth at Magnolia, my pain was gone. It's wonderful to have full use of my shoulder again! Thank you, Magnolia!

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for shoulder pain.

Usually not, and it’s rarely the first step. A scan shows structure, not what is loading it, and wear and small tears turn up on shoulders that have never hurt. We start with a hands-on, cause-first evaluation: range in every plane, strength, how your shoulder blade moves, and your neck. If imaging would genuinely change your plan, we’ll help you get it, and we can look at the tendon with musculoskeletal ultrasound here in the clinic. Some things do get looked at promptly, though: a fall onto the shoulder, bruising down the arm, or hard pain while you are resting.

Yes, and movement usually helps more than rest. Hurt doesn’t always mean harm, and a shoulder kept still stiffens fast, which is a harder problem than the one you started with. What matters is dosing the right movement and the right load, and leaving alone the range that flares it. That is what a licensed physical therapist works out at your evaluation, then progresses as you improve.

We won’t hand you a number before we have looked at your shoulder, because a number picked in advance is a guess. What you get instead is a plan with an endpoint. Your plan runs through our four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent, and each phase has a job and a way to know you have finished it. Your therapist talks through the likely shape of yours at the evaluation, and you will always know which phase you are in and what is left.
